‘I sleep in my wheelchair’: Hudson Valley residents struggle to find home care
Anya Kamenetz did a great piece on Ian’s old school. (I might have helped with this piece.)
PICTURE: Yes, we love to visit graveyards. This one is in New Haven, CT.
SHOPPING: I have to drop everything now and pack for a trip to Florida. We’re checking in on my aunt, who isn’t feeling very well. Dinner and drinks with cousins in the evening. In my suitcase, gingham dress from the Gap to be worn with flats and a little sweater for cooler nights. I also have a light slip skirt from J. Crew that I’ll pair with some slides and a black t-shirt. Beyond that, I don’t know what I’m packing. I have to open up the crates with the summer stuff and see what I have.

Made me ill and with no solutions I guess if it really would work to pay people $22/hour, than that *would* be a solution. But, once again, I’m faced with whether society is willing to pay.
Another example of systems that depend on exploiting caregivers (underpaid ones like the ones who aren’t willing to work for her anymore and family caregivers like her brother). And I can’t even imagine the burden it would be for me to manage five employees individually.
