About

This is the personal blog of Laura McKenna. I’m a former professor, teacher, journalist, researcher, and secretary in a solenoid valve factory. I am presently working on book about autism and advocating for the needs of kids in my community.

Apt. 11D is a non-income generating website that solely exists for my personal amusement. It is a hobby.

I started blogging in 2003 and over the years, I wrote over 7,000 blog posts about everything from autism to home decor to election results. Now, I put my pictures on Instagram and confine my free writing to a once-a-week newsletter (see below). For the most part, any new content here just directs my most loyal readers to content found elsewhere.

Where you can find me:

The Apt. 11D newsletter is a continuation of the blog — some politics, some personal, a whole lotta random. Subscribe here

The Great Leap newsletter is my story of how my son with autism and I are working together to help him transition to adulthood.
