About

This is the personal blog of Laura McKenna. I’ve blogged since 2003, which is a pretty damn long time. I write about schools and families for some big name magazines and websites. My professional writer website has all that info.

Here, I call attention to articles or research that I find interesting — I’m a former college professor with a PhD in political science, so I like ideas. I write about family stuff, vacations, cute dresses, pretty books and art, parties, and life in the suburbs. So, if you don’t enjoy a post on Monday, come back on Tuesday to find something totally different.

Short bio: I’m a New Jersey-based writer specializing in education, family, and politics. Medium bio: I’m a New Jersey-based writer with publications in The Atlantic, USA Today, HuffPost, The 74, Edutopia, Hechinger Report, Yahoo News, and more. I specialize in education, parenting, and politics. Longer bio: Check out my professional writer website — www.LauraMcKenna.com

The Apt. 11D newsletter is a continuation of the blog — some politics, some personal, a whole lotta random. Subscribe here

The Great Leap newsletter is my story of how my son with autism and I are working together to help him transition to adulthood.

The Educated Parent newsletter will provide news and explainers for parents who want to be better advocates for their kids, and all kids.
