My son's cafeteria has introduced cinammon buns to the menu. Nice.
New York City was ahead of the curve.

Is that a styrofoam tray? I think I recall reading (probably on a link from here) about how many of those trays NYC public schools go through. And after I’ve been guilted into my environmentally sound ceramic mug (which doesn’t even waste water because I never wash it).

My #2 is absolutely scathing on the healthy food revolution at his schools, and about meatless Monday in particular. Since we are having trouble keeping his weight up to normal, I am taking to sending him with barbecued chicken wings in his pocket, with which he lords it over his unfortunate classmates.

I’ve been doing the meatless Friday thing all year. So far, it hasn’t been bad. But, I haven’t tried to get the boy to follow it since if you let him pick his own food, he’d eat nothing but dairy and pasta anyway.

yum cinnamon buns.
Are they part of the free lunches?

The sweets aren’t part of the free lunch program. The catering company doesn’t clear enough money with basic lunches, so they sell extras to increase revenue.

We used to get cinnamon rolls and chili (and a stick of surplus cheese) once a week. It was the most popular thing they served and the only time anybody ever aet a legume at the cafeteria.

I’ve given up. I now pack a lunch for my youngest, unless we’re absolutely rushing out the door. He’s slimmed down considerably since he stopped eating school lunches regularly.
