The viral Jennifer Aniston salad looks good.
In Royal Family Gossip, the RF frozen out Meghan and Harry when they showed up for the big Queen party last week. They put them in the cheap seats in the back behind a 14-year old kid. Then M and H didn’t attend any of small family functions afterwards; it’s not clear if they were invited. They never got close to Charles or William, so there are no pictures or film clips or stories for Netflix. They presented the baby to the Queen, but their private photographer was banned. So, they left in the middle of the event in a huff.
I’m in 5K shape, so now it’s time to get into 10K shape. And starting to look at the big one.
Inflation prices are freaking us out big time. I’m cooking a lot more, and we’re starting to think about alternative vacation plans this summer. I’ve been taking more videos for Instagram Stories; I’ll post some cooking videos here.
Steve unloaded some more foster kittens in the house and then left me with them all day, when he went into work. The last time, we had kittens, there were four people at home to help out. And these ones are very immature. Holy crap. They scaled my legs in order to get hugs yesterday. Cute, but deadly.
I really don’t see the inflation outside of fuel prices. I’m still getting out of the grocery store for the same money as a year ago. Gas prices obviously have an impact across the board eventually, but the direct impact is pretty small because we live our lives in a circle with a ten mile radius. Everyone near me bought a $60,000 truck last year and the bumpers are so high I fear for my life crossing the street in front of them. Hopefully that stops.

Gas isn’t a huge issue for us. It’s the restaurant/bar budget that tripled in price. Our last trip to a local restaurant for Jonah’s birthday cost over $300. It was a nice restaurant, but it wasn’t THAT nice. Ian got water and a personal pizza.

Pittsburgh has not seen anything like that. Maybe 25% higher prices than 2019. It’s still $100-$125 before drinks to feed all of us.

Yeah, it’s drinks that are the killer. 3 out of the 4 of us drinks. With two drinks per person, that’s another $100 on the bill; that beer and wine that really cost about $20 at most.
Basic stuff like burgers and salads cost $20 now.

Agree eating out is more expensive. And drinks! I had a can of cider at a bar where it usually was $6 and this time it was $9. I have noticed groceries going up. Mostly pre packaged things.
With regard to the misspent youth post, one way I saved money as a new, low paid grad in CA was by not drinking. It seems that the late 80s were a big era of 12 step in the LGBT scene. My friends and I did like to go out dancing but we would go to clubs where there was no cover charge before 10, arrive at 9:50, and I would only drink water which the bartender would give me for $1 plus I’d tip her $1. How simple life was.

You’re lucky. Chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, limes, flour, pasta are all up in price.

My family’s irrigation system just got trashed in a storm, so I’m going to pass along higher corn prices too.

” They presented the baby to the Queen, but their private photographer was banned. So they are shoring up their defenses against him and the Wallis Simpson wannabee with whom he is obsessed. Smart RF. Defend the Firm.

Agree. I think Buck House has played this one very well indeed.
M+H invited (so no sympathy vote for being out in the cold), but very much second fiddle, and clearly the British public are not interested (to get boos on such a celebratory occasion is fairly unprecedented).
Their ‘private birthday party’ for Lili – attracted a group of 3rd tier royals – bet they were hoping for E2, but she would never have attended a private celebration on the Jubilee weekend – her sense of duty is too strong. The timing can only look like a deliberate snub to William and Kate and their kids – who H+M must have known were unavailable (in Wales, representing E2). They’re certainly not making any attempt to build bridges – which is really, really stupid: E2 is 96 – Charles is about to hold the money and influence bags in the near future.
Their ‘private photographer’ was present as part of their entourage (he and his wife and children were guests at the birthday party) – so clearly they were hoping for something more than pics of their children in a garden. But pretensions were firmly depressed.
The whole thing is pretty pointless. I mean, why not come over for the Jubilee, and stay for a fortnight or so (they certainly don’t have to worry about getting leave from work!). I do wonder if the plans changed, when it became apparent that they weren’t going to get the A-list treatment they so desperately want.
And ‘refusing’ to attend the parades, concerts, etc. – simply makes them look either jealous (didn’t get the best seats and sufficiently fawning adulation) or snobby (how boring, darling, a common parade).
The effect has been to leave them desperately seeking relevance. I see that they’ve arrived home, and immediately ‘breached their child’s privacy’ (remember all the fuss about no face-on photos of their kids, who deserve a private life) by releasing the first public photo of their daughter.
Flying in an oligarch-style private jet hasn’t done their Green credentials any favours, either. Not to mention a ‘ride on pink Volkswagen Beetle’ as a birthday present for Lili. Charles (apparently) gave her an old-fashioned wooden swing – which is absolutely one-upping them in the green stakes.

The worm has definitely turned: https://nypost.com/2022/06/07/prince-harry-meghan-markle-slammed-as-hypocrites-for-flying-home-in-private-jet/ and there’s really no way back for her/them that I can see. Now, should I be spending some of my too-short life thinking about Meghan-Amber-Harry-Johnny when there is genuine literature to read and my tomatoes need weeding? The question answers itself!

Also a shortage of Sabra Hummus. I’m suffering.

Local Persian grocery here in NoVa has substantially better hummus than Sabra, just saying. Also, it’s not that tough to make…

Our grocery store, Hy-Vee, developed a parallel to Sabra a number of years ago and I’ve been using it since then – it’s great, and also cheaper.

HyVee has chocolate flavored hummus, which is really just all the non-political problems of the Midwest squirted into a tub.

Speaking of cats, our adopted semi-feral campus kitty has been living pretty happily with us for 5 months now. Except for when sick, our college student daughter has faithfully performed her cat duties.
The only problem is kitty’s monthly flea/tick treatment. By this time, kitty has figured out what it means when the box comes out and the crinkling starts. We had a really bad time of it last month, even with both me and college girl trying to do the job. Kitty’s evasive maneuvers have been getting more and more effective. This month, college girl and I decided that I should open up all of the packaging in a different room so there would be no rustling and crinkling. That worked pretty well, we got it done on the first try, and kitty didn’t hate us all day the way she did last month.

Son one occasion when I took my cat to the vet, he asked if I knew how to pill him. I said yes, but you can be the bad guy today. As he was retrieving the pill from the corner of the room for the third time, he said, this is the part where I tell you how easy it is
