I’m powering through article after article this morning. If I can’t get any of them published, because school stuff is lower priority to health, political, or economic issues, I’ll post them here.
Here’s how to clean your cell phone.
My college kid wants to spend his spring break in Alaska with his roommate. Will someone drive to my house and tell him “no” for me? He’s going to flip out.
Our entire school district is closed and will supposedly move online next week. hahahaha. That’s not going to work at all.
Church closed. No weekend services during Lent.
I filled up the car with gas, took out money from the ATM, spent another $200 at the supermarket.
Keep the economy going and buy some cute outfits online this weekend.

Too far away, but I’d love to!
“Church closed. No weekend services during Lent.”
That’s pretty serious.

I don’t think there’s any appreciable danger to someone that age traveling now. I guess it would be awkward to have his picture in the paper as “Alaskan Patient 0”, but I’m guessing his roommate has it if he does.

I’m not worried about the college kids. Health-wise, they’ll be fine. But I don’t want Jonah staying at his roommate’s home, if his parents get sick. They won’t want him there. I don’t want him getting stuck in Alaska because the flights close down and then being a burden on another family.

That’s true.

I think camping might be OK, though, if he’s thinking he’s going to implode. I am trying to figure out my house rules about social distancing. I think it will allow for small groups (2-3).

Those are valid concerns. My daughter asked about whether we had space if someone at her U needed it. I said yes, but also that it should be carefully thought out. It’s quite possible that one could get stuck.
A family I know brought back six extra kids from their kid’s college. They have significant resources, so it won’t be a financial or physical burden (i.e. they might have elevator buttons in their house), but I can imagine that it will get annoying pretty fast. Of course, yes, if it is a need. But, if it’s just a house party, I’d be wary.

I think there’s a market for education stories re coronavirus, as the schools close. Someone from the NYTimes reached out on the “support” group on FB for the coronavirus closure in my city.

Like, which online programs are good? Which age kids do better with remote education? Which college classes can’t be done online? How feasible is it to work from home with school kids? (I do a little bit of work-from-home and I don’t find it compatible with providing A+ parenting to our 1st grader. The teens and I get on better, though.)
Sis and I were discussing the problem of closed WA schools providing group childcare to families in need…which just perpetuates the problem of spreading infection in group settings, but on a somewhat smaller scale than if school were open to everyone.
I also just found out that Big Local Festival is happening right now downtown.
I expect that means that I’m about to collect on my school closure bet with my senior. Woohoo!

Confusingly, there was a large group of people in the location for Big Local Festival, but the internet says that the festival was canceled two days ago.
