  2. The Matisse exhibit look pretty fabulous. I’m amused that a woman taking a selfie is now part of the look at a glamorous exhibition.

    I was at LACMA this summer, which had a “Van Gogh to Kandinsky” special exhibit (Impressionism -> Expressionism), and individual pieces were labelled with photography rights (i.e. the notes for each picture had a camera icon, with a cross through it, if photography of that piece wasn’t allowed). The situation was designed to give work to guards, who got to watch individual people taking individual pictures to warn them of the policy. It was crazy. And then, at the Metropolis II exhibition (a kinetic sculpture), photography was allowed, but not video. When the movement of the sculpture started (they turn it on and off) the guard walked around looking at people’s phones/cameras to see if they were vidoeing, rather than taking stills. At some point, I wondered whether taking still frames repeatedly (my camera does 10fps) was acceptable or not.
