  1. The floors look pretty.
Hmh. We need to get ours refinished sometime. But, boy, what a mess until you’re not living in the house any more. But I don’t think we’re going to move any time soon.

  2. It reminds me of my parents’ fireplace except my parents had shag carpeting. I don’t think the stone edges did much damage to my head.

  3. I’m very fond of fireplaces with built-in seating (my grandparents have a bigger version of this one) and multi-colored slate. Our current rental has a big brick bench built-in near the fireplace, but unfortunately our youngest injured himself in an ER-worthy way by spinning right into the bricks about two years ago (he got a gash right over the bridge of his nose). So, to this day, we still have that unattractive foam tape stuff covering all the edges and corners (it was installed after the accident).

  4. In other housing news:
“RALEIGH — Police have arrested and charged a Tarboro man with squatting for at least seven months in a North Raleigh home valued at nearly $2 million.
“The 7,664-square-foot home in Wakefield Plantation has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms, theater and game rooms, a wine cellar, vaulted ceilings and an elevator. There is also a swimming pool and a Jacuzzi whirlpool bath.”
    It’s a foreclosure.

  5. I just remembered something.
IKEA sells a very comfy clear plastic and chrome chair called TOBIAS for $80 (you can also get it in a smoky clear color). I don’t own any, but I’ve experimented with them at IKEA and they flex and have a very nice seat-feel. They might work very well in a mid-century home like yours.
