Three special ed links: One mom writes raising a child with Down Syndrome. Another writes about her bipolar son. Do states need special schools for the deaf?
I was planning on painting over the knotty pine kitchen cabinets in the new house. After looking at these pictures, I'm rethinking that plan. Keep the 70's knotty pine or not?

Give the knotty pine a probationary period: one year, say. You know, just decide not to decide right now.

First listen to “Knotty Pine” by the Dirty Projectors. If you think it’s just too hipster or twee, then the cabinets must go.
More seriously, wouldn’t the knots and rough grain make them hard to paint?
Even more seriously, what the hell, naming your truck after a Real Housewife? Let alone saying something that could be construed positive? Let alone thinking about any of them?

Keep the knotty pine. I think I recommended it already but retrorenovation.com has great decorating tips for mid-century kichens. I think the Mad Men kitchen is knotty pine so it’s probably due for a comeback.

Good advice. It may turn out to be too dark or too dated, but give it some time to show its stuff. It’s period appropriate to your new house, which counts for something. (Much as I like the Craftsman style, why do people drop Craftsman kitchens into 1950s tract homes?)

My grandfather built absolutely beautiful knotty pine cupboards in two of the “family” houses that my distant cousins now own. I’ve let it be known that if there is ever a remodel, they’ve got a taker for the cupboards. But really, it’s for sentimental reasons.
I never like the look of knotty pine painted, perhaps after your pondering period- you’ll decide to get new ones and some hipster wanna-be will be happy to buy your present cabinets.

Keep the knotty pine. You can change it later if you decide you hate it, but if you’re on the fence at this point, give it a chance to grow on you.

I’d search pinterest for knotty pine:
It seems to look best either super retro with turquoise counters or modern with lots of white.

I think I surprised myself a little. After doing the show – all the preparation, framing, pasting, labelling – I didn’t expect to feel inspired to start working on new paintings so soon. The show was a lot of work but seeing my work ‘up there’ so to speak brought new perspectives and deeper insights into my process. Ultimately you work is something you must love – even when no one else seems to. It must be your baby, your joy, your spark. You are the creator after all.
