As I sat on the sofa this morning reading the fresh news on Twitter, I growled at Steve as he said good-bye. It's a bad news day for men.
There's Schwarzenegger's secret love child story. The best snarky tweet came from @darrwest, who wrote "Arnold Schwarzenegger moves from being the Terminator to the Impregnator after fathering child with family employee." A close second goes to @nancyfranklin who writes "Schwarzenegger, Edwards: If you like it then you shoulda put a thing on it. #condom"
Roseanne Barr writes a fabulous article in New York Magazine about being a fame-whore in Hollywood and the deep sexism of the industry.
And, of course, there's that dirt-bag, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who makes Berlusconi look like Benny Hill. The French reaction.

I think a better term for Schwarzenegger is “the sperminator”.

The roseanne article is pretty amazing. I find her absolutely fascinating. The insights into the industry and how all talent were exploited is pretty eye-opening. Especially in this day of reality tv.

Second the comment on the Roseanne Barr article. Wow.

I really loved the Rosanne piece. I’ve always found something to admire/like about her- even during the crazy times.
I can’t believe Arnold wasn’t smart enough to release this information on the day Bin Laden was killed. It would’ve been back burner. Also, I’m kind of sick that this is “breaking news”. The sex lives of celebrities should be reserved for Perez Hilton, not the lead story on the news.

The roseanne article also makes you wonder how Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are doing it. Is it better now and if it is, is it a matter of the times or representation?

Keeping a child a secret until he or she is old enough to learn algebra. That’s kind of impressive for someone in the spotlight.

Blech. I also growled at my husband (though it was a couple of days ago for me). But, then, I thought about all the men who are not scum (and that includes my husband). It’s the lesson I’m trying to teach my daughter — that the *most important* thing about a man is that he treat her well. I hope that will insulate her from loving someone who is scum (that’s the sad thing about these guys, the ones who you really think were loved by their wives, who weren’t marriages of convenience in the first place.)

I just can’t get over having this person in my employ for ANOTHER 10 years and the two of them keeping this secret (including the financial support).

I know. He should write a book.

I just read the Roseanne article, and it basically backed up every nasty thing I’ve heard about Hollywood, particularly how it is for women. Plus, bonus reference to George Clooney being a relatively decent human being. However, I’m not entirely sure Roseanne should be too proud of herself for “discovering” Apatow and Whedon. I mean, both are certainly very talented, but feminist? Whedon tries to be, I guess.
I’ve been following Melissa Silverstein’s blog, Women and Hollywood, for a while now. it’s good stuff.

From Twitter: “@GeorgeTakei Schwarzenegger confesses to fathering baby with house staff member, but explains that child is destined to bring down SkyNet in 2031.”

Ok,
That Ben Stein piece contains the stupidest reasoning ever. (Sample: only criminals commit crimes! DSK isn’t a criminal, so it doesn’t make sense he committed a crime.)
But also…why are rightwing bloggers defending him? He’s a socialist. These are people who raked Clinton through the coals. If anything, they should be dancing a jig and gloating. Are they offended that wealthy old men might lose their rights to rape younger women with less status, and (horror of horrors) then get treated just like *any* criminal would? I wonder what crimes Ben Stein’s committed against maids on the assumption a young immigrant woman wouldn’t report it.
