This is a snapshot of the teenage world. Four kids waiting for the school bus pretending that the others don’t exist. Only one is wearing a winter coat.
I had insomnia last night. I kept myself amused by reading articles on my iPhone and tweeting under the blankets. Now, I’m wired on coffee and righteous indignation. Let’s see how many blog posts I can write before this morning’s PTA meeting.

Great picture, and I love the title as well.

What’s with the denial-of-weather-reality? Yes, I skipped on the hat so as to preserve my 80s fake-Cure hairstyle. But I swear I wore a coat and actually felt the cold. It’s stunning to me to see kids showing up to school, in Chicago in February, wearing shorts.

My wife grew up in the northern suburbs of Chicago, and well remembers in the 60s waiting for the bus to high school wearing a miniskirt. bare legs. She says ‘Chicago, where the weather builds character’. Yah.

The boys in our area often wear shorts to school in winter.

I remember boys wearing shorts in winter in Cleveland. I think metabolism is high at that age (teens).

I don’t get it in your neck of the woods. In ours, it’s warm enough, though still odd. Do they not spend much time outside? Is that the difference between then and now? I once walked across a campus in Chicago wearing a skirt and tights, in March (I foolishly thought spring was coming) and I was frozen.

Weird–that seems remarkably like the 6 year old world too (minus the outerwear problem, since mommy is still dressing them). I thought socialization was going to improve–are you telling me no? 🙂
