This is the year that we spent a ton of money doing really boring things to the house. Last week, we put a new roof on the house. This was one of the before shots. I haven’t taken an after shot yet, but imagine a darker roof without a leaky spot over Ian’s bedroom. While you’re at it, imagine that someone took the garbage cans in the garage and trimmed the plant over the garage, aka, The Eyebrow. Okay, then imagine that the diseased crab apple tree with five remaining leaves has been replaced with a smaller, healthier shrub.
House and Home

And, have those things actually been done, or are we all just imagining them :-).
We had our house repainted this summer, a very big project for us, that also include repairing water damaged decks, windowsills, and decorative columns. The house looks pretty now (and, before, my kiddo was starting to complain that our house was starting to look like the houses everyone complains about, you know, the ones with car repair shops in the front yard). We are very proud that we managed to get it done (and, before any neighbors complained — neighbors are very non-complaining around here, at least directly).
I would like to imagine some work on our garage (which did get repainted, but needs to have some other work done), some tree trimming (it’s time to open up the views more again), and generalized clean up (kiddos pitching return is still under a bush where it was moved during the painting).

Funny!

Don’t you love getting house-shamed by your kids?
At our house, it’s parenting advice from the children. The big kids figure we aren’t adequately parenting the 2-year-old.

We’d like to fence off our backyard (there’s a small gap that would give us a safe, backyard for the kids if it were finished). I kind of hate the original builders of the home for not finishing the freaking fence. How hard would it have been to put in an extra 20 feet of fence line? Everybody else in our area has fenced and gated backyards–it’s the local norm.

Sounds as if you got a lot done already!
Next year I think I have to take out the decaying wood that forms the front garden walls. I am not handy and don’t have tonnes of free time but it is starting to rot, ugh. And sand/repaint the garage doors. And finally install the new mailbox (maybe this week?). Curb appeal is kind of iffy without those issues tackled!
