Tech Tips

I’m cleaning up my various devices, culling the herd of crappy programs, and adding new ones. Here are my current favorites:

RSS feed — Newsblur

Recipe generator – MyRecipes

Backup system – Need a new one. A friend recently suggested Carbonite.

I haven’t added any new social media programs lately. I’ve got Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. I’m mostly adding new people and expanding coverage.

iPhone and iPad apps. PhoneTracker to monitor my teenager’s roaming around town. Of course, 2048. I love Remodelista.

What you got?

  1. I can get 2048 pretty easily now, but I’m not going to start anything else until I can get 4096.

  2. I have a subscription to Carbonite, but, happily, I have never had to use it. I am curious as to others’ experiences.

  3. You were using Feedly. I’m curious why you switched.

As for backup, I use CrashPlan. I considered Carbonite, too. Unfortunately, I don ‘t remember why I picked CrashPlan in the end.

  4. I use Crash Plan, and a good thing. My hard drive failed; we had a backup on a drive, but that backup drive failed. Gah! Now I’m using Time Machine and an external drive. I plug it in every now and again. I have most of my important stuff on Dropbox, but it’s nice to have all my settings/libraries ready to restore.

No Tumblr for you? I have a friend who is way too much into Fassbinder/McAvoy lately (so tired of the constant posts) but I get all my Captan Swan/Orphan Black/Sleepy Hollow goodness there. Plus “Chrys Watches GoT,” “What Should We Call Me” and “LOLMyThesis.”
