Girlie Friday

Alright, it’s time for some girlie-ness. I don’t have any show-and-tell of projects around here. Everything is a work in progress. So, let’s look around…

This spring, I’m all about open cardigans and big scarves.

Steve and I are torn between two cross-dressing, gender-bending Broadway shows — Caberet and Hedwig. Which one should we see?

Ellen DeGeneres does have excellent taste in home decor. I’ve seen her homes in house porn mags, and they are all lovely. She does great stuff with reclaimed furniture and rustic stuff. This stone farm-house is one of her former homes. Her latest cost $40 million.

If a certain wonderful husband needed a Mother’s Day gift idea, a new pair of gardening gloves and some serious kick-ass pruners would probably be appreciated.

  1. HEDWIG. Have you seen the movie? It is incredible. I am actually a little worried because I don’t think anyone could top John Cameron Mitchell in this role.

I’ve been in the Brody House, Ellen’s $40mill dollar house, before she bought it. It is also beyond belief and an incredible piece of architecture. Plus it was all modernized in a very nice way and it has closets like Maria Carey’s on MTV cribs: bigger than a studio apartment. Ellen has great taste. Apparently Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox both own Quincy Jones houses as well.

Did you see Elizabeth Gilberts house: http://www.eatpraycrib.com/
    Or Ayelet and Michael’s? http://www.remodelista.com/posts/ayalet-waldman-and-michael-chabon-in-berkeley

  2. I’m seeing Cabaret at the end of the May mostly because I need to see Alan Cumming on stage since I wasn’t able to get to his Shakespeare last year.

  3. Alan Cumming is great, but I think NPH is one of the best entertainers of our generation. Others at the top that I have seen are Bill Cosby and Bernadette Peters (in Gypsy); totally worth whatever you have to pay.

    1. I’ve seen Bernadette Peters in Gypsy. It wasn’t bad or anything, but for a show about a stripper, it was really dull. Urinetown (the other thing I saw that same trip) was much better.

“It’s a privilege to pee” really speaks to somebody who has been wandering Manhattan but is used to living in places with way more bathrooms.

  4. It’s probably already too warm here for cardigans here. The forecast I heard was a high of low 90s and a low of low 50s.

I see that maxi skirts and dresses are very big this year again.

  5. I vote for Hedwig but it’s a tough choice. If you go for Cabaret, buy the DVD of Hedwig. (Buy, don’t rent – you’ll want to watch it more than once.)
