I’m catching up on life. Here are somethings that I’ve read in the past hour:
I Wrote the “Scathing Obituary” About My Mother
Yes. Washington may be boring right now, but there are big things happening on the state level, in technology and in global politics, says Ezra.
This article about Republicans being more conscious about energy consumption than Democrats is getting RT-ed by every Republican in my feed. Let’s play a game. What variable should be controlled, but wasn’t? Anyone?

Homeownership and/or wealth. That was a really stupid article.

Yes. I think it is really homeowners vs renters, rather than republicans, democrats etc. Blargh!

Age, income, economic independence/dependence, family size and home ownership. (Parents are notorious about saying stuff like, “Turn that light off. Do you think we own the electric company?)
Some renters don’t pay for heating or cooling their homes.
Here’s another recent fun one:

“Although liberal Democrats typically rank near the top on most science issues, on astrology-as-science in 2012 they do not differ significantly from the rest of the sample overall. Nor do moderate Republicans and conservative Independents differ significantly from others in their tendency to think that astrology is at least somewhat scientific. The only three groups who significantly tend to view astrology as less scientific are conservative Republicans, Republicans, and conservatives.”
There are many possible explanations: women being on average more given to both woo and liberal politics, religious conservatives’ dislike of anything New Age-y, ESL folk and the undereducated (both Democratic constituents) not getting the distinction between astrology and astronomy, racial and ethnic differences, etc.
Bonus: Lindgren promises to do a follow-up on heliocentrism and political orientation.
Anyway, I hope we will all be similarly critical the next time there’s one of those studies proving that Republicans and rich people are stupid/crazy/ignorant/selfish/insensitive or what have you.

Lindgren also promises a post on belief in evolution and political orientation.
