Day Off

Steve’s had the week off. He starts a new position on Wall Street on Monday. It’s a full-time position, not another consultancy gig. Hello, health insurance. Hello, paid vacation days. This is a good thing. I’m worried about his new commute, but I’m hoping it won’t be more than 90 minutes each way.

We’ve caught up on a lot of household chores this week. Both cars were serviced. There’s a trap in the attic for the squirrel, the fucker that has kept us awake all week. We went to two Back to School Nights. Steve covered some duties, while I wrote an article. I feel like we squandered this week with chores, so today we’re having fun.

After he gets back from taking a drug test for HR, we will pack up egg sandwiches from the local deli and go for a hike. That way I won’t be tempted to engage in long Twitter battles over the article or compulsively check my article’s ranking on the Atlantic website.

Priorities.

  1. 90 minute commute and no drugs vs. health insurance. You got to go with the health insurance, but that’s still rough.

  2. Slavery to the machine, and all the people in little boxes. All this for health insurance and a mess of pottage. I made the same trade.

  3. Job!! job is good! congrats! This is a train commute, right, so he can read? Maybe we get back to those swell history book lists? There are benefits for those of us in the Greater 11d Co-Prosperity Sphere!
