Over-the-Fireplace Art

We have a big brown fireplace in our livingroom. I’m not complaining. We love our fireplace, even if it is big and brown. But its bigness and brown-ness is a challenge.

Last week, I took an old map of Paris from 1550 and cropped it, so it didn’t immediately look like a map. I took out all the color, added some new colors, and sharpened the lines in Photoshop. Then I had it printed on canvas at Canvaspop. Here’s how it came out:

  1. I love map art! That looks really nice.

That said, I kind of want to spin it 90 degrees. All my Paris maps have the Seine running horizontally.

  2. That is fabulous! Do they do a referral shop? I bet you could get some other people to glom onto your good taste in improving their own homes.

  3. I’ll probably sell the .jpg elsewhere, but if anybody here wants it, just ask. If you want to make your own, the link above takes you to the original image.

    1. I would love the jpg.–I probably won’t print it on canvas, but my husband and I went there for our tenth anniversary (generous in-laws), and I’d love to have this as a reminder to hang at home.

  4. E-mail me, Jackie and I’ll send it to you. It’s a big file and WordPress is giving me a hard time about putting it on the website. Lmckenna11 at gmail.com.
