Conservatives are fighting the Common Core, because they fear any move by the federal government into schools. Bill Keller explains why conservatives are being morons. Andy Rotherham said, “It’s illustrative of the political jam the Common Core is in and highlights the problem rather than the way out.”
My favorite tweet of the day: “@AmSpec Stories of insane Prof. Schwyzer, fairly normal among the perverts employed by sex-crazed academia http://bit.ly/14NOWVI ”
The incredibly offensive letter to a mom of autistic child.
So happy that Dave Chappelle is coming back.

Opposition to the Common Core is one of those issues where certain segments of the right and the left are in agreement. There’s definitely a vocal group of lefty anti-reformers who think the CC is terrible, terrible, terrible. I’m suspect of a lot of the education reforms that are popular right now but as a big government liberal I am all for the CC.

Like the line, too, but the rest of the article is a rant of extreme proportions. I think it refers to Obama as a comrade.
Am currently noting the misogyny in academia. The hierarchical relationships do breed abuse.

Even if academics are not particularly more sex-crazed than any other population and are not responsible for the downfall of civilization as the Am Spect would have it.

I find it difficult to believe an adult mother wrote that letter. My guess would be a teen. But, people are always surprising me.

I hear a milder version of that letter all the time. And people come up to ME and say that stuff. They are usually complaining about other autistic kids and not mine, but STILL. People who are my friends.
A lot of people don’t understand why autistic kids do the stuff they do. It scares them. They also blame the special ed kids for their kids’ problems in school. If only there were no special needs kids in their kids’ classes, they would all be Rhodes scholars. Really. One of the articles that I started in the beginning of the summer, but never finished, was an Austism FAQ.

Last night I was in the ER (asthma flare, needed a neb treatment and some steroids) and there was a young child in the room next to me who was there solely because she was out of control and her parents couldn’t handle her. She spent the hour I was there screaming obscenities and being physically violent towards them. Violent enough that they had to call security to monitor her. The nurses were less than kind and understanding to the child and the parents, making all sorts of whispered catty remarks about them. It must really, really suck to have a child that you cannot physically control and on top of it have to deal with the judgment of people who are supposed to be understanding.
