Just some links this morning. Maybe a proper post later.
I watched the Honey Boo Boo show last night and had pretty much the same reaction as Slate. They seem like a really nice, loving family, despite efforts by the producers to turn them into a punchline. I would love to hang out with them.
This video explains what’s it’s like to have an autistic brother. Made me cry. (thanks Jeremy S.)
This commercial was nominated for an Emmy.
I plan on watching Orange is the New Black this weekend.
Read Eleanor & Park last Sunday. It didn’t suck.

I have a few tv critics I read/follow on Twitter, and when they started raving about Orange Is the New Black, I thought, huh, why not. That was Thursday, the day it came out. And so I watched and became hooked. True binge viewing. 6 eps a day for 2 days, and at 1 am Friday I had to go to bed, so I watched the finale Saturday morning.
It’s so weird to have all this amazing television, and then to turn on the Emmy nominations this morning and find the Same Old Crap. I guess we should be thankful Jon Cryer wasn’t nominated again. But I think I will never forgive the academy for not nominating Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black.
Eleanor and Park was wonderful. John Green has it on his list of summer reads: https://play.google.com/store/books/collection/promotion_1000542_john_green

We actually know the Spitzers, distantly (not well enough to call Silda and ask her about the status of the marriage). Their youngest daughter is just starting, or just about to start (I forget exactly) college. Our speculation is that they would get divorced once that happened. I understand that divorces at the moment the last child goes to college are fairly common, common enough that I read a college dean complaining about it, as it tends to intensify the stress of freshman year, obviously.

I freaking loved Eleanor & Park, with an intensity that was completely out of bounds to its literary merit. Oh, the nostalgia.

OK, I love that the brothers can see the joy in each other, but am freaked out by the horseplay during driving. I’ll admit to being totally paranoid about driving (it’s probably the most dangerous activity I engage in and I do not have any idea how I’m going to handle it when the kids start driving).
