June Blogging

My, my, I’ve been a terrible blogger lately. Missing days here and there. Unfinished blogroll. Messy business. Half-baked plans to revamp the blog one more time.

I’ve been tres busy with kid stuff. I’ve been setting up the kids’ lives for the summer. Camps and all that. I’m booking hotels for our travels through Maine in August. I jumped through a few of the  usual bureaucracy hoops for Ian like the good circus dog that I am, and blew some fire at the school district a couple of times, because really I’m more of a fire eater than a hoop-jumping dog.

I sold some freelance ideas, the last for the summer.

I do love writing, but I hate HATE selling my writing. I had a great topic a couple of weeks ago. I tried selling it to the usual sources, but they passed. Two days later, Gail Collins wrote about it. Five days later, the Wash Post had a front page story about it. Do I want to wring someone’s neck? Why, yes I do. I’m writing that story next week for a new journal, but it ain’t going to have the same punch.

Selling writing just sucks. So, I’m not going to worry about it for the next 2-1/2 months. I wrote 3 chapters of a book over this winter. Maybe I’ll finish the bugger off this summer.

I’m going to make up for lost blogging days this weekend. We’re trapped at home as Jonah crams for finals. I’m so ready to hit the Jersey shore, but it’s going to have to wait another week. Since I’m trapped at home, I might as well blog.
