Inaugural Hangover

Am I the only Obama voter, who was seriously underwhelmed by the Inauguration?

The inauguration felt like a Super Bowl half time show, complete with lip syncing singers and diamond dripping celebrities. A congo line? Really?

The celebrity spectacle is perhaps all that is left, because everything from the speeches to the commentary spoke of despair. Like we've given up making changes. We're just biding time until this lame duck leaves and Hillary steps in. Four years is a long time to just hang out at a party.

Time to put the dancing shoes away, Mr.  President, and get to work.

  1. I didn’t watch. 🙂
That said, I don’t feel like Obama is a lame duck and am kind of surprised. I like Clinton and would love to see her elected, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like Obama has a lot of political capital right now and can do some good things.

  2. I think the lame duck feeling is a part of the serious divide in government. I think Obama said that he’s going to do everything he can purely from the executive branch and then fight for the rest. Don’t know whether any of the rest will be successful (unless the house can be flipped, which is a long shot).
And, I don’t think Hillary would be any less of a lame duck, unless we can keep the house and senate.

  3. I agree. The speech was okay, but the second inauguration is the one time the president has the country’s attention with no concerns about reelection, and he (or she, one day) should lay out the vision and agenda with passion and zero lines that are intended to get applause or to appeal to any one constituency. This is the time to hit Lincolnian levels of inspiration and seriousness and it wasn’t there.
I did like the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, though.
