No, not a secret to most of us in the West 90s. I found that complex many years ago, and have walked through a few times. (You have to wait until someone comes by and lets you in.) I have never been in one of the apartments, though.
Another street that I used to find hauntingly beautiful was East 97th between Park and Lexington. All old tenements, with beautiful stonework. Unfortunately, the landlord (Mount Sinai, I think) replaced the old leaded windows with modern thermopane, and the block has lost its charm.
Not secret to those of us who grew up across the street! I am sad to report that the apartments are dinky, dark, and thoroughly charmless inside.
