Electoral College – Pop Vote Split?

Ezra Klein is predicting an electoral college/popular vote split.

Obama is winning the West (+6), the East (+4), and the Midwest (+4). The only region he’s losing is the South. But he’s losing the South, among likely voters, by 22 points. That’s enough, in Gallup’s poll, for him to be behind in the national vote. But it’s hard to see how that puts him behind in the electoral college.

  1. I’ve been suspecting that this is a not-at-all-implausible outcome for a while. The electoral college votes which will put Romney over the top, if he gets them, will come from states that he will win comfortably, but not with huge margins (Colorado, Virginia, Florida, Ohio, etc.). While many of the states Romney will win will give him huge margins of victory. What states will give Obama huge popular margins? Outside of New York, I’m not sure any will (not even California). The table is all set for yet another EC-popular vote divide.
