Leave saving the world to the men? I don't think so.

Dude, I taught Hunger Games a year ago. Taught it alongside The Lottery and Battle Royal (the story by Ellison) and with a short excerpt from Persepolis (all in our textbook). It also fit into my “love stories” theme from earlier in the course.
Wish I could go to the midnight show tonight, but I have to interview promotion candidates tomorrow starting at 8:15 am and it would be rude to show up looking like I just did the Walk of Shame.

Have to admit that while I enjoyed reading most of the Hunger Games trilogy (the very end, not so much- but I can recommend a great fanfic for others so displeased…), after learning of the casting for this movie I became a little worried. Lawrence and Hutcherson seem just alright to me. I want to really root for them…
And now The New Yorker’s new review is quite negative. I’ll still go see it, though- I love Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci…
Speaking of YA stories, the Breaking Dawn II trailer featuring vampire Bella will be a trailer run before HG, and that could be interesting… And then those who like RPattz have to check out the French trailer for Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis. Oh. My. NSFW.

Haven’t seen a movie on opening night since I don’t know when. Last Temptation of Christ, maybe?
But I just saw Hunger Games and found it to be pretty damn good. And I also now have an inappropriate crush on Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, which was pretty much my least favorite casting decision. Go figure.

I saw several big white vans on campus with Hunger Games names in the windows (Mockingjay, etc.), presumably all set to ferry students to the theater this weekend.
