All the Hunger Game Links

Hungergames

Who's excited about the Hunger Games movie? Me, me, me.

Great links and commentary from Amy Davidson at the New Yorker.

An old post from me:  Feminism and the Hunger Games

Ideas and resources for teaching the Hunger Games.

  1. Dude, I taught Hunger Games a year ago. Taught it alongside The Lottery and Battle Royal (the story by Ellison) and with a short excerpt from Persepolis (all in our textbook). It also fit into my “love stories” theme from earlier in the course.
Wish I could go to the midnight show tonight, but I have to interview promotion candidates tomorrow starting at 8:15 am and it would be rude to show up looking like I just did the Walk of Shame.

  2. Have to admit that while I enjoyed reading most of the Hunger Games trilogy (the very end, not so much- but I can recommend a great fanfic for others so displeased…), after learning of the casting for this movie I became a little worried. Lawrence and Hutcherson seem just alright to me. I want to really root for them…
And now The New Yorker’s new review is quite negative. I’ll still go see it, though- I love Woody Harrelson and Stanley Tucci…
Speaking of YA stories, the Breaking Dawn II trailer featuring vampire Bella will be a trailer run before HG, and that could be interesting… And then those who like RPattz have to check out the French trailer for Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis. Oh. My. NSFW.

  3. Haven’t seen a movie on opening night since I don’t know when. Last Temptation of Christ, maybe?
But I just saw Hunger Games and found it to be pretty damn good. And I also now have an inappropriate crush on Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, which was pretty much my least favorite casting decision. Go figure.
