Spreadin’ Love 574

Wow. Lots of good links today. Some of them should be their own posts, but I'm rushed for time.

More about French parenting

Great writing about cilantro and life

MadLibs for PhDs

More black families are home schooling

What if all Americans were squeezed in as tight as Manhattanites?

  1. My neighborhood is only a little less dense than Staten Island (5,300 people per square mile compared to 8,000) and it seems very crowded.

  2. I really appreciate the texture that Gobry and the French dad Slate writer (Jean-Marc Proust–can that really be his name?) bring to talking about French family life and school. I think so often, Americans tend to think of France as some sort of baguette-filled grownup Disneyland, and it’s nice to get a picture with a bit more detail and grit.
Although, if anybody reads Bringing up Bebe and decides not to be one of those upper-middle class women at the park telling indifferent toddlers, “Mommy doesn’t like it when you hit her in the face,” that’s good, too.
