Spreadin’ Love 529

A Harvard CEO makes less than a CUNY CEO. Suck it, Harvard. (Thanks, Julie G.)

Putting that 10,000 hours of practice theory into operation. (Thanks, Wendy)

The happiest states have the highest suicide rates. Thank God, we're all miserable here in Jersey. (Thanks, random drunk guy at a party)

  1. Harvard graduates are much much more likely to come from extremely affluent backgrounds, esp those who become CEOs, and are therefore less likely to be moved by the financial aspect of compensation?
The happiest states have high suicide rates because being miserable around happy people is truly awful. Or, perhaps, people in happier states are better informed and thus more likely to commit suicide successfully (I believe the UK has the highest failed suicide rate in the world, because people there believe that it is possible to commit suicide through poison).

Poison also has an absurdly large role in British murder mysteries, at least the older ones.

  3. It is possible to commit suicide though poison, though it’s harder (you often need no one to find you for a while) and often quite unpleasant. (You might die via organ failure in a painful way, for example.) It’s similar to trying to kill yourself via drinking cleaning products or taking pills. You can kill yourself fairly easily by taking too much Tylenol or even aspirin, but you’ll soon wish you didn’t, as liver failure (for tylenol) is fairly slow and painful, and major damage to the stomach lining and uncontrollable internal bleeding (for aspirin)is also nasty. People think they will drift off to sleep with poison or pills, but are usually wrong (sleeping pills might be an exception, but even there you’d want to be careful.)
