Spreadin’ Love 507

I endured the awful interview with Oprah last night. I see Alexandra Stanley didn't like it either.

I don't know if you've been following Katie Granju at MamaPundit. She's had a tough year. And she's expecting again. Congrats!

Speaking of mommyblogs, this woman explains what happens when a child doesn't sleep.

  1. I missed this story from 2005:
    http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2005/nov/23/business.pressandpublishing
“Piers Morgan, former Daily Mirror editor, used his wife’s savings account to fund part of a £67,000 investment in computer company Viglen a day before the shares were tipped by the paper’s City Slickers column, a court was told yesterday.”
Why don’t we ever hear of American journalists doing this sort of stuff? Are they more honest, or do we not hear about it because they watch each others backs?

  2. Our tabloids don’t generally attempt to get in on the hard news game, so if they diddle the pics no one in the major media cares.
There was a legend among newspaper photographers I knew to the effect that a guy who worked for the St Louis paper had once photoshopped out a Coke bottle that was sitting on the table at whatever meeting he took pictures of. He was held to be very lucky not to have been fired on the spot, but according to the legend he had to tell anyone (anyone whatsoever, anytime, anywhere) who asked about it the full story.
Photogs will do a lot of crazy shit to get the shot, but the will not, in my experience, doctor the pics.
As for pump-n-dump, ask yourself why James “Dow 36,000” Glassman is still a presence in the business media. (Granted, he was a Bush administration pitchman, so bars are set very low in some quarters.)
