Mike Bloomberg gave a great defense of freedom of religion today.
"Being a Methodist is easy. It's like the University of Phoenix of religions. You send them $50 and click 'I agree' and you're saved." Jon Stewart
"Every serious fiction writer, published or unpublished, has a pile of horror stories about trying to get his or her work out into the world. The funny ones are told in bars. The ones that aren’t funny — the ones that may never be funny — are told only to therapists or to the insides of medicine cabinets." Dwight Garner's Review of "Mentor"

The Bloomberg speech was amazing. I like a Republican who doesn’t kowtow to the wingnuts.

That review of “Mentor” sure made the author sound like a whiny nutcase.

The author of the review, or of “Mentor?” The review pretty much states that the author of the book did go through a clinical”nutcase” phase (not PC word, by the way). Paranoid delusions are pretty serious, even in the mental illness world (and unlikely to be caused by having a book fail).
I liked the review for giving information about how the sausage of books is made. Bloggers turning into authors, and more public attention to editors (I recently read the book by Julia Child’s editor, and her role in the cookbook revolutions) has given me a lot more insights. I always like it when such information becomes more public (42K for a first book, for example, “small” book tours, quotes on books, “orphaned” books at publishing houses, . . . .”), all fascinating for someone whose only interest in writing is reading.
