One of my twitter people linked to Bookshelf Porn this morning. It's a website devoted to books and bookshelves. It's not really about the content of the books, but it's for people who just love shelves and spines and towering columns of tomes. It's nice to see that in an age of Kindle, there are people who still love a good hardcover.
I need a cold shower.

Why are you fooling around with the softcore stuff? Enjoy the courage of your obsessions. But you’re gonna need a whole pack of cigarettes afterward.

The shelves are great. The high ceilings are very nice. The real wonder would be that much open, clean floor space.

“I need a cold shower.”
Mmm, baby. Me too. I would love shelves that high with that many books.
P.S. Doug’s site is too much. You can’t fantasize about owning bookshelves like that. It’s like Botticelli’s Venus, or reading “Leda and the Swan”–too far beyond porn to be arousing.

That shelf is very nice, but with those big windows and the light, the book covers are going to fade very soon.
Doug’s link leaves out the most wonderful library I’ve actually been to (nicer than some of those pictured, I think), the John Ryland library in Manchester. You can see it, but not in wonderful detail, here:

The reading room is open to the public to use and is wonderful.
