I wasn’t really into the World Cup until grad school and immediately afterward, when some Canadian friends of ours sucked us into the drama. Now we follow it obsessively–partly because it really does showcase folks with some awesome physical skills, but mostly because the global nature of it is just plain amazing. And if nothing else, it makes for far better television ads than the Superbowl.

Not quite the same, MH; the footwork required by the Macarena was, if I recall correctly, rarely up to World Cup standards.
