Spreadin’ Love 439

Interesting post by Scott Lemieux on why he's not happy with Kagan.

The latest research points to the fact that ancient humans would go slumming and pick up Neanderthals at the local watering holes. Olivia Judson discusses the latest research and the new questions.

All the same, the idea of Neanderthal ancestry brings a vividness to
the distant past. Were the men exotic and sexy? What were
half-Neanderthal, half-human children like? Were they extra-beautiful,
as people with mixed ancestries often are? Did they have an unusual
hungering for red meat? Did we learn Neanderthal customs, or languages?

My little bro, a reporter for the Times Herald Record, wrote a series of articles on Kristia Cavere, a Republican candidate for the House seat in Orange County. Cavere claimed that she had raised a record $400,000 for her campaign, but after much sleuthing from little bro, it turned out that she only had $12 in her campaign war chest. Keith Olbermann explains and laughs here and here.

  3. The manuscript is under review at two presses, both of which are taking their sweet time. And hey, I’m coming to APSA in DC to be a commenter on a food politics panel! Will you be there?

  4. Probably. I didn’t submit a paper proposal this year, so I would just go for the socializing. DC is easy to get to and we have a lot of friends there. Food politics panel? Oh, I’ll be there for that.
