I have self-consciously avoided blogging about Palin even though I've been very tempted. I'm mean there's Palin and Oprah on a sofa. It's like the best Christmas present ever for a blogger. And then throw in a naked picture of a Levi! It really doesn't get much better.
But no, no. I chose the high road, because, really, the best thing for everybody would be if she just went away. And she isn't going to go away if we all keep blogging about her. So, the high road I went, even though it didn't come naturally.
Andrew Sullivan's been taking some guff for his never ending Palin posts. He defends himself. Sort of.

I had thought, admiringly, that our hostess was actually thinking about higher things than Sarah Palin, not that she was resisting an urge. Like when you meet someone who actually wants to read Wallace Stevens rather than watch Friends. So I’m disappointed to learn that her virtue is actually counterfeit.
But pride can be a substitute for real virtue, sometimes. There’s an Emerson poem, “Grace,” that is sort of on point.

You know that SP’s new book is now being advertized in your blog ads? (I didn’t click through, so I can’t be sure, but her face is smiling at me at 11D now).
And, that reminded me of another reason why I like here over, say the Volokh Conspiracy — I’m pretty sensitive to the ads I’m confronted with. I do not, for example, like weight loss adverts with half-clothed women in them, and end up avoiding blogs that feature those ads too prominently.

Sarah might just be the future of my political party. More, please.

Careful what you wish for. Obama’s approval rating continues to level off (49% approval, 46% disapproval in a Public Policy Polling’s poll). By next year, members of congress with dicey races may be asking him to stay away from them. A 2010 Republican congress will probably have SP’s fingerprints all over it.

“Falling below 50% doesn’t necessarily spell defeat for re-election. Obama’s ten months [to reach that level] will match the ten months for Ronald Reagan…”
How many states did RR win in his re-election bid?
