When History Calls, Answer the Damn Phone

Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-ME) voted for the Senate finance version of a health care plan yesterday. She said, "When history calls, history calls."

The tide is turning on health care reform. Check out the optimism in the blogosphere.

  1. Setting aside, for the moment, my doubts about whether any reform will pass and my far larger doubts about whether it would work, I’m starting to wonder what will happen if any reform succeeds to the extent that it can de-couple employment and healthcare. I mean, I know a guy who figures his benefit package is a key component of his salary. If this guy’s health insurance became available at a reasonable cost without being tied to his current employer, he’d view himself as taking a paycut without getting a raise that paid whatever new taxes hit with this and about 10% over his current salary.

  2. Hey, she’s from Maine, not Mass! Please don’t deprive our lowly little state of its moment in the sun. 😉

  3. Maine must be the most mis-abbreviated state in the nation. What with MA, MI and MN all being taken by states with lots more letters in their names.

  4. This isn’t really about Snowe as much as it’s about the Blue Dog Democrats. There was a risk of people like Ben Nelson voting against the plan before. With an actual card-carrying Republican on board, though, all the Democrats will fall in line.
