Just so you know, a lot of blog fodder lately has been harvested from the people/groups/organizations/newspapers that I follow on Twitter. I just found two good things via @anamariecox.
Justine Larbalestier talks about why publisher put a white girl on the cover of her novel, when she had in mind a black girl.
She also pointed to an article about blogs in the New York Review of Books. She tweeted, "I wish I wasn't the kind of person who counts the number of women in any given list of experts, BUT I AM."
Global perceptions of US over time. The numbers have improved since Obama was elected. The French love us.

When I was in Europe (during GHWB’s time), I found the French seemed to like me well enough. The Germans and Spanish also. It was in Italy where I heard obvious muttering about Americans under my breath. Same thing happened to my grandmother when she was there, but my grandmother could swear in Sicilian so she had fun with it.

Counting the number of women is a good way to tell whether the people putting together a group of experts are dumb and lazy. I really should use it more often as a time-saving method.
