I'm collecting data on how political bloggers used YouTube for the 2008 election. I've looked at 772 blog posts from 2 bloggers during the month of October. They embedded 200 videos during that month. Excluding the handful of videos that were purely entertainment, that leaves about 190 videos. None of the those videos were viral. The vast majority of the videos were clips of interviews and commentary on mainstream TV shows. Those 190 videos received 18.5 million views. Actually that number is probably triple that, since I don't think that YouTube registers viewership on blogs or RSS feeds.
