Steaming Piles of Chicken Poop

I made a slide out of this recent story about the run-off from chicken farms mucking up the Chesapeake Bay for my public policy class today. I really wanted an excuse to use the words "chicken poop" as many times as possible. Also "run-off."

  1. I talk about this every year in my Global Ecology class (non-majors survey). There is joy in saying “poop” in the classroom. I also get a bang out of estimating how many chickens there are at any given time on the planet, and how many are eaten each year.
Somehow this lively approach to the subjecct results in some conservative students concluding I’m a communist. Poop = communism …?
