The article said the oldest Obama girl is in 5th grade. That’s about when middle class DC families leave the public schools, either for private school or the suburbs. Hardy Middle School is public and doesn’t sound bad, but I rarely hear anything good about any DC public high school. I’m looking forward to Sandra Tsing Loh’s treatment of the school issue.
Helpful hint to the Obamas: If you do send the kids to a top-dollar private school, fund one or two full need-based scholarships while your kids are there.

If they send their girls to Georgetown Day, that would be really cool– it’s a fancy private school, yes, but it has a great tradition of being socially progressive, including its history with integration.
