A Bad Day

Ian stopped puking on Tuesday, but he wasn’t getting any better.

He was still weak and refusing all food. Like a genius, it took me
until last night to ask him exactly where he was feeling sick. We were
on the way to pick up Jonah from a birthday party at a rocking climbing
center. It was 7:00. I had 30 papers to grade. We just remembered that
Jonah had homework due the next day. I had no clue what everyone was going to
eat for dinner. And just maybe my throat was starting to hurt.

So, with my throat tickling, I asked Ian where it hurt. He opened his
mouth and said "back there." Kids sometimes puke when they first get
strep throat. Ugh.

It was too late to run to the doctor’s, so we decided that Steve would
stay home with Ian for the morning and take him to the doctor’s for a
strep test. I had class.

This morning, his blackberry told him that his stock sunk over night
and that he better get into the office that minute. We got Jonah’s
homework finished, got him on the bus, and got an appointment for Ian.
I dropped Steve and Ian off at the doctor’s and drove to work. Ian’s
throat culture came back positive. Steve took the bus back home (we’re
a one car house), got Ian antibiotics and a Slurpee. Mom came to
relieve Steve, so Steve could run into Manhattan. I taught class. Gave
a not genius, but passable lecture on the Prince.

Now, I am going to CVS to get a quickie strep test.

My husband’s company is about to tank. He may not be employed on Monday.

So, with all that’s going on, I’m closing comments on the blog for a
few days. I just don’t feel like dealing. I’m not sure that I’ll
continue to maintain the comment section as it has existed for the past
few years. I’m going to have to be meaner than in the past.
