Last week, I watched the VP debate while sitting in front of the computer. I viewed the debate on CNN.com, blogged, and played an online word game. How’s that for multitasking? I checked out a couple of my favorite bloggers who were also liveblogging, but I didn’t go too deeply into the blogs. Instead, I logged into Facebook right after the debate to check out the one liners from friends. Within two minutes, I read ten or more snarky status updates about the debates.
Phantom Scribbler and Elizabeth think that Facebook has killed the blogs. I totally agree.

I actually think Twitter has probably done just as much damage as Facebook.

I’ve abjured liveblogging — signal/noise unfavorable and I really don’t Twitter much.
The blogging — I want more thinking and analysis & less shoot from the hip.

I still like blogging for personal stories, but you’re right–I’m much more into Twitter and Facebook updates for stuff like that.

I’m with LisaV. I immediately checked into twitter and I update my facebook status via twitter.
Oh and the first debate we were out celebrating a friend’s birthday so I also checked twitter obsessively on my iPod to see what folks were saying.
(Are you twittering yet?)

I have Twitter and will read Twitter and Election Twitter, but I am not an obsessive tweeter/twitterer. Same with Facebook.
However, I will be in an AIM chatroom with a bunch of my old friends from fandom “watching” the debate with them.

Geez, you’re all making me feel really old. I don’t get text messaging, either.
(email, and blogs, which are my replacement for the old usenet groups).

I hate text messaging. And cell phones.
But I’ve been chatting for years and years, with IRC first, then AIM etc. Twitter is basically a cross between chat and blogging.

Twitter is fine for emergencies like hurricanes, etc., same for text msg. However I regard Facebook as something for people who want to pretend they have real friends and feel “Twittering” for anything other than emergencies as something for those with the mindless attention span of a gnat. Other than that they’re all great.
