Absolutely fantastic video and slide series about local issues across the country. I’m going to embed some of these videos in my PowerPoint slides for State and Local Politics.
Awesome charts by Elizabeth on composition of the workforce.
Dooce writes about her reaction to the Palin and gets 2000 comments and a death threat.
Really interesting article about the vanishing Republican voter.
I love the status updates on Facebook.

We read the “vanishing republican voter”
The line that struck us was
“Upper Americans live in a world in which things work. The packages arrive overnight. The car doors clink seamlessly shut. The prevailing Republican view — “of course government always fails, what do you expect it to do?” — is not what this slice of America expects to hear from the people asking to be entrusted with the government.’
But, the article itself was odd — because it’s goal seemed to be saving “Republicans” not their beliefs. Or, if it was saving the beliefs, he was pretty unclear about what those beliefs that must be saved (the hill that you won’t sacrifice) were going to be. How was Frum going to re-write the Republican platform to recapture the disappearing voters? It seemed like same-sex marriage was up for negotiation, and support for more anti-imigration tactics. But, how to regain the “uppers” who believe in competent government? and are now free to vote their values, rather than their pocket books?

I read the opening words, “I live in Washington D.C.,” and I couldn’t read any further.

I’ll point out that the article actually started “I live in Washington.” Out here on the leftmost corner of the continental US, we always throw little hissy fits when someone writes that, and we used to live near DC, and work for the feds.

PS: A lot of smart people live in both Washingtons

LOL. I don’t blame you.
Sure, a lot of smart people live in Washington, but the author was also David Frum, so I assumed it was “Villager” knowledge of the “other folk,” so I declined to read.

Yeah, the unequal states where Democrats do well apparently include Texas. I should have done like Wendy and saved time by stopping at “Frum.”

Ahh, but how could we possibly not be seduced by an article titled “the vanishing republican voter.”?
(I’m waiting for Laura’s culture wars post to bubble out of her)
