I saw something related to Bitch Ph.D.’s comments a while back by Megan McArdle (aka ‘Jane Galt’). She was discussing having children, and was running into the fact that they would change her life more because she’s a woman. For most practical economic purposes, as a single, childless woman going through an MBA program and working as a programmer, she was a man.
It was amusing to see a stereotypical libertarian-republican reinvent some of the basic understandings that feminism had figured out decades ago.

Well, Jane/Megan is a smart, logical woman. She gets to the right conclusions, but just goes her own way to get there.

She didn’t seem to realize this until she was anticipating it personally. This is better than not realizing until she was actually in it, but she certainly wasn’t ahead of the crowd. For somebody who’s supposed to be both highly intelligent, and trained in one of the top b-schools on the planet, that’s not good.
