Everything has stopped in New York City. No buses. No trains. And it’s freaky cold out here.
It all came down to the pension. It will be interesting to see how all this pans out.
UPDATE: God, I hate being in New Jersey and missing out on all the craziness. I love chaos. Read some NYC bloggers talk about this business.

I’m curious to see if people get home today. I live (way) north of 96 St., so I could probably get a ride with my 2 younger kids to get them to school on the UWS. Look, 3 warm bodies for your car! But could I get back up here at 3pm, or will all of the gypsy cabs want to stay down south, now that they can?
No way can I send my older daughter clear down to Stuyvesant…she’s just not old enough to hitch or negotiate her way back.

Northern Manhattan is in really bad shape. I just got off the phone with a friend who lives on 186th. She’s totally stranded and worried about how she’s going to get her Amtrak train on Friday. I might drive in, pick her up, and drop her off at Newark train station.

I think a lot of NYers are discovering their inner Pinkertons over this strike.
I’m lucky enough to be able to use Metro north, but a lot of people have real problems, especially in this weather. If the strike goes on for more than another day or two, I think we will see a very serious backlash. Hopefully, the union will run out of money soon (the national chpter is not backing them).

Yesterday, most people took a day off from work, but today even more people had to face walking several miles in 22 degrees weather. It’s really bad. Most people were fairly good natured about it yesterday, but today I’m hearing a slight backlash. We’ll see what happens.
My husband is getting in okay, but he takes a New Jersey bus right into Times square. I was supposed to drive in with the kids on Friday for a holiday party, but that may not happen now.

Heh heh. Inner Pinkertons. I think there’s truth to that, too.
I don’t know, Laura. I’m not sure you’re missing much. You still get the NYC news, and your husband has to deal with this crap, so it’s not like you’re totally immune. But at least it doesn’t affect your daily doings.
