I’ve been look at pictures of Kashmir and my stomach turns. How much devastation can we take? Hurricanes. Tsunamis. Earthquakes. Mudslides. Floods. This must be one of the worst years in recent memory for natural disasters.
What’s going to be the fallout from all of this? A new commitment to environmentalism? Better global coordination for relief efforts? Strengthening of government? Greater roles for non-profit operations?
Or nothing?

Well, you’d think that all of these disasters would cause the government of the country that uses most of the resources and causes most of the environmental damage to take a serious look at what they are doing to the earth …. but it just doesn’t seem like that is happening.

Why nothing, of course. These are just some terrible coincidences!
Although, I did think it was interesting that last night on NBC channel 4, they interviewed someone in NJ who said that these floods are much worse than they have to be because the overbuilt environment means that there’s nowhere for the water to drain.
In other words, it IS our fault.

taking some responsibilty would make sense, wouldn’t it?

Straight up, sister. If only the US wasn’t so screwed up environmentally, that earthquake would never have happened. The Tsunami too, of course. I blame Haliburton.
We have to take responsibility, after all. What we need is a new commitment to environmentalism. Maybe not building in flood plains would be good too.
