Withering Heat

I’m sitting in my office which lacks air conditioning. It’s probably the last time, I’ll be able to step foot in here today. It’s a 90 degrees outside already, and the Latino rap blats outside my window. Three Mexicans and their boss, Sam, are laying down a new porch roof today.

Sam is the nosiest roofer in New Jersey. Mr. Curious has already gone through our record collection and inquires where I’m going whenever I pull out of the driveway. Where you going, missy. I’m walking to get my car from the gas station. What’s wrong with your car? Got a flat. How did you do that? Ran over a nail.

You get the idea.

It’s cool. He’s a nice guy and is doing a great job in this killer heat. If there was real justice in the world, he and his workers would be getting paid better than a paperpusher in an air conditioned office. But things don’t work like that.

OK. Some quick links before I wilt.

I would like to write a longer post critiquing the Times series on class. On a cooler day, I’ll have to point out the obvious. The Times omitted themselves and their readers from analysis. The SUV moms and the Rodney Dangerfield rich and Archie Bunkers are poked at and mocked for the pleasure of Brad and Babs in the Vows Column.

Some blogs that riff off the series: Geeky Mom and Angry Pregnant Lawyer. Frolic gave the heads up on this article by Chris Lehmann on the Times series.

Interesting article on the new generation of conservative intellectuals.

I haven’t written much about the real estate bubble in the past few months. That was a big theme in my old blog. So you all don’t think that I’m forgetting my roots now that I’m in the home owning class, I want to start blogging about that again. Also, I’m starting to see more media buzz about the topic again.
