Fascinating left/right debate going on about obesity, hunger, and poverty going on at Assymetrical Information and Crooked Timber. No time to weigh in (heh) right now. Maybe later.
Vote for your favorite liberal blog to win a Koufax award. 11D is up for best new blog. Changing your blog name has its advantages.
Also, you can vote for the BoB awards, which celebrates the best personal blogs. I guess these blogs can have no political content, which might explain why I’ve heard of few of them. We all have our blog niches, you know. Anyhow, check out the blogs that have been nominated. Are there any that I should be reading?
A vigilent blogger reported that a bill was proposed in Virginia that would require women to notify their local law enforcement officers if they know that they will soon have a miscarriage. This post was picked up all by a slew of bloggers who wrote the state congressman who sponsored the bill to tell him that he was an ass. He quickly responded to the blogger and changed the language of the bill. I still don’t get the rationale behind the bill, but whatever. It’s interesting to see the power of the blogosphere. Particularly women bloggers. Many of whom are condescendingly referred to as “mommy” bloggers. See, they’re political, too.

I voted for you. (Though I’m afraid it’s probably a lost cause; James Wolcott’s fans seem to have come out en masse.) Jacob Levy kindly nominated me for “Most Deserving of Wider Recognition,” so maybe I’ll try to drum up some votes for that whenever Wampum gets that category up.
What a weird bill in Virginia. I’m trying to think what social conservative/anti-abortion angle might have inspired it, but am coming up empty. Sounds like simple stupidity and/or lack of oversight on some staffer’s part. Anyway, chalk one up for the blogosphere.

About the ‘mommy’ bloggers… Y’know, there was some smart person who said once something about the ‘personal being political’. I would have thought that something that profound..having been said a good long time ago would have gotten around. Go figure.

My favorite “mommy blogger” who is a mother and writes about that, but also writes occassionally about politics and mostly just witty, smart and entertaining posts about her life, is MomBrain. You should check her out.
