Off for the Jewish holidays, I took my kids to the movie theater, along with all the other non-Jews in town. We saw A Dolphin's Tale. There's a sharp drop off in the quality of kids' films after the Pixar years and before grown-up movies, so I didn't have high hopes for this movie. I figured that I could catch up on e-mail during the movie, if it really sucked.
It actually didn't suck. In fact, I spent most of the movie choking back tears.
The movie is about a kid who bonds with a beached dolphin that loses his tail to an infection. The disabled dolphin ultimately learns to swim with the aid of a prosthetic fin designed by Morgan Freeman. The dolphin ends up saving the boy, his cousin who was injured in the war, his mom, an aquarium, and the entire community. Yes, it's very corny, but when Morgan Freeman says that disabled people aren't broken, I couldn't stop crying.
