A number of my friends are professors at community colleges. Steve’s a former community college professor. It’s thankless work cleaning up for the sloppy public school education and supporting students who have huge personal burdens. But it’s also incredibly important work as they help to give these kids the tools to make a decent salary at a proper job.

In New York City, these professors teach five classes per semester and are expected to publish. All for $61,000 per year. At CUNY, these classes can have up to 50 students per class.

My friends are currently grading 250 exams right now. That seriously sucks.
