After five days in Rome, we dragged our suitcases to the train station to pick up our rental car. Then my husband, who possesses more bravery than I, hit the Italian highways.
We drove a couple hours north with first a brief stop in Siena to visit one of my high school friends, who lives there. In her twenties, she met an Italian with a noble linage on a school trip to the country and married him. They now run a hotel in Sienna and manage various properties.
We left her with a wave and a promise to keep in touch, and then headed a half hour north to a little town, Radda in Chianti. Those three days, we ate the best food on our trip, drank the best wine, and saw the most awesome scenery. We will come back here. It was a magical place.
