The New York Times’ article on the calorie counts at Chipotle is the topic du jour. (More from the Atlantic, Refinery 29, Jezebel.)
My fast food favorite is Wendy’s Bacon Junior Cheeseburger, a caesar side salad, and an unsweetened ice tea. That’s 630 calories. That’s still a lot. I would be better off with a Big Mac that 467 calories. (So, so hungry.)

Little eating today and certainly no meat. But still, the actual burritos at Chipotle are for young people. There’s basically no reason at all for anybody over 25 to ever eat a flour tortilla. They don’t even taste good.

Panera is the place I love to hate. I know too many people who insist it is ‘fresh’ and ‘healthy’. Umm, no.

I shook my head at that article. Journalists surprised that non-frankenfood isn’t automatically low cal. Most of us know that even when you eat the most organic, locally sourced, kind-to-the-environment food, it may very well contain salt, sugar, fat, and you know, calories.
If you’ve ever eaten at Chipotle before, you know the portions are huge. If you think about it for five seconds, you realize that the chips are fried and the guac contains avocados, so calories. Duh.
I always order the soft taco on the kids menu or else bring a teenage boy with me to finish my meal.

Yes, you would think that even a brief examination of Italian or Mexican peasants (or pictures thereof) would suffice to learn that a diet of whole grains, fresh vegetables and little meat may be healthful in some way, but it isn’t particularly slimming.
Myself, I’m not so sure about the healthful part even: the Danes live just as long as the Italians.

I used to eat at Chipotle occasionally; a burrito bowl (no tortilla) makes 2 meals for me, nice for at work where we have a fridge and a microwave. I can’t eat there right now (temporarily on a low-salt, low-sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol, no NSAIDs diet) but I’d happily eat there again when I’m no longer constrained.

Mmm. I’m having Chipotle tonight. I get the veggie burrito bowl without the rice. My weak point is guacamole, though I do enjoy the cheese. I don’t get the chips on the side.
