What’s Going On

The family has gone back to work and school, so I’m back to business. I have to finish off an article by the end of the day. Well, I want to write 3/4rd of the article and then get someone to pay me to finish it off. It’s an article that’s totally in my wheelhouse, so it shouldn’t be so bad. In fact, I’m reusing some research that I did back in 2003 for this article. I was actually totally cool to find that old stuff still on my harddrive, after a few keyword searches. Organization pays off.

We had a full weekend. A history bee for Jonah. A Broadway show for Ian that the rest of us tolerated. (Matilda was a convention for privileged, eight year old girls.)

Sunday morning was deceptively beautiful. Light rain. Steve went outside to get the newspaper, and nearly wiped out. It was all black ice. Then I got a call from my brother. He said that he called my father to warn him about the black ice, because he also almost fell down the stairs. My brother was too late. Dad had wiped out about twenty minutes earlier.

Newspaper reading is dangerous. Another nail in the coffin for print news.

We got my dad and took him to the emergency room. Our tank-like Subaru was the only car that could make it in those conditions. On the way to my folks’ house, we passed a four car pile up and another car that was crunched into a telephone pole.

The emergency room was packed full of newspaper injuries and others who crashed on the way to church.

Dad just needed a few stitches over his eyebrow. No concussion or broken bones. It was a fairly routine emergency room trip for us. Low level drama.

With the weather being so crummy, we all hunkered down. With the candles lit, the house was very cheery. We nestled into books and video games.

  1. yikes! (again!!) good thing you had the Subaru to drive your dad. We would be toast! (with a super light Prius w/ bad tires and an old Hyundai accent. Sigh…) we should buy a 4 wheel drive car, maybe.
